About “ASHRAY” – Open Shelter Home for Children

About Organization:

Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT) has been working with the most marginalized and vulnerable communities across Maharashtra and has gone to the last mile to reach children and families in crisis. Over the last 3 decades CCDT has impacted the lives of more than 2 million individuals through its various programs and interventions. CCDT employs rights-based and needs-based approaches to empower the most deprived communities, and consequently facilitates sustainable social change. These approaches build on our strategic partnerships, anchored over the years, with the continual involvement and contribution of our donors, strategic partners, and stakeholders in our quest to achieve the goal of equality and justice for all children in the context of their families.

Introduction:

CCDT implements a comprehensive residential care program that restores a wholesome childhood to children in crisis, that are orphaned and vulnerable, through health and nutritional care, psychosocial support, education, sports, recreation, family life values and personality development. The program facilitates opportunities for the healthy growth and development of the children until they are 12 years of age or reintegrated into the community. Therefore, we envisage mainstreaming these children in the nation building by providing care, support and protection through our Residential Care Program.

Ashray is an open shelter that provides a safe environment for children in crisis. Our program caters to the diverse needs of children from challenging backgrounds, including HIV-infected and affected children, missing children, orphaned children, children with unfit parents, and those rescued from exploitation or abuse. We provide a nurturing environment that addresses their physical, emotional, and educational needs.

We work under Mission Vatsalya, a flagship scheme of the Government of India, promotes child protection and well-being through community-based care and rehabilitation. Under this scheme, Ashray Open Shelter Homes provide short-term residential support for vulnerable children such as those living on the streets, Trafficking, runaways, working children, or those rescued from abuse and exploitation. These shelters act as safe spaces offering temporary care, nutrition, counselling, education support, and life-skills training, with a focus on family reintegration and preventing children from slipping into high-risk situations.

At Ashray, we offer a comprehensive range of services designed to support the holistic development of children. These include health and nutritional care, psychosocial support, education, sports, and recreation, as well as family life values and personality development. Our team provides access to medical care, nutritious food, and health education, ensuring children receive the care they need to thrive.

Our approach is built on the principles of inclusivity, compassion, and empowerment. We believe in providing care and support tailored to each child's unique needs, ensuring they receive the support they deserve. Our goal is to restore a wholesome childhood and enable children to grow and develop until they can be reintegrated with their families or start living independently.

By providing a safe and supportive environment to 40 children as per capacity. The Ashray center promotes the rights and dignity of children, helping them overcome crises and build a brighter future. Our program has a lasting impact on the lives of children, empowering them to become confident, capable, and compassionate individuals who can contribute positively to society.

Even before the advent of the mandatory provisions with regard to CSR, Our Company had been contributing towards education of impoverished students of Sweet Angels School in St. Mary’s Hill of Kurseong Village of Darjeeling District in West Bengal.

Though Kurseong Village houses few Boarding schools, Sweet Angels is the only school in St. Mary’s Hill. The Schools does not have any Government aid and operates purely on sponsorship. It caters predominantly to the children of the labourers in Tea Estates in Kurseong.

  • The school has been established by Sweet Angel’s Educational and Welfare Society. It educates primary students from Classes I to IV. Larger section of the Children is provided free education with Lunch free of cost and free transport facilities. They are given two sets of uniforms, winter clothing, and shoes each year.
  • The detailed report on CSR Initiatives is available on Page 16 & 17 of the Director’s Report
